Dispute Resolution

Sophie is a member of Shulmans’ Dispute Resolution team, acting for a wide range of clients, from individuals to global enterprises.

Sophie is praised by her clients for providing impeccable client service. She prides herself on finding cost-effective solutions to disputes at an early stage as well as practical, tailored advice should court proceedings arise.

Sophie is known for her specialist advice in a number of key areas:

Disputed Wills and Estates

Sophie is a key member of our Contentious Trusts and Probate team (which sits within the Dispute Resolution team) and regularly advises on complex disputes. Acting for Executors, Beneficiaries and Trusteesm, she has experience in dealing with challenging and defending the validity of Will claims, lifetime transactions involving undue influence, maladministration of estates, removing executors, promissory estoppel claims and Inheritance Provisions claims.

When dealing with what are often very stressful and personal disputes, she has a cool and measured approach. She is able to offer practical and considered support to her clients whilst assisting them to reach the most cost effective solutions.

Partnership Disputes

Sophie has acted for individual Partners and on behalf of Partnerships both in respect of pursuing and defending complex, high value claims. She has a particular specialism in professional practices having acted on behalf of Partners of firms of solicitors, accountants and property management companies.

Sophie is able to use her technical and procedural knowledge, together with her analytical and problem solving skills to get to the bottom of the often complex commercial problems involved.

She recently settled a complex Partnership Dispute which had, among other concerns, a Limitation issue which she used to the client’s advantage to keep the pressure on the other side to achieve a positive result for her client.

International Disputes

Sohpie's experience also includes dealing with complex disputes on behalf of international clients. She has assisted with disputes in the US and Italy and on behalf of clients from Japan and Germany.

Sophie recently attended the Interlegal Commercial Arbitration Day at the Arbitration Court Attached to the Hungarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Budapest, together with the firm’s Interlegal connections and colleagues and was an impressive delegate. The Interlegal network is one of the longest-established and most experienced international legal networks. This means that no matter the context or jurisdiction of an international dispute, we have access to representation for our clients in over 46 countries.

Sophie also deals with a variety of other commercial litigation including advising on breach of contract claims, insurance claims, professional negligence, breach of directors’ fiduciary duties and disputed debt recovery issues.

Sophie is a member of the Leeds Junior Lawyers Division and the Leeds Law Society.
