Tom is an associate and an integral part of Shulmans’ nationally-recognised employment team. Tom has broad experience and capability to assist businesses and those leading them on HR and employment issues.
Tom has particular experience and expertise in the education and retail sectors, acting for instantly recognisable leading independent schools and national retailers.
With an in-depth understanding of the unique requirements of the independent education sector, Tom works closely with bursars, head teachers and governors to ensure that their standards and approach are reflected in consistent and effective advice.
Tom’s thoughtful and thorough approach is combined with swift and effective guidance, supporting clients to find solutions to often complex and delicate matters, including management of absenteeism and performance related issues.
Described by clients as being “quick to get to the heart of a problem” and as having a “practical and pragmatic approach”, Tom brings extensive knowledge of the difficulties which retail businesses face, including discrimination and management of disciplinary issues. Tom is an experienced and effective advocate, regularly appearing in the Employment Tribunals in respect of the full range of employment-related issues. He also has experience in resolving matters by way of the Employment Tribunal’s judicial mediation service and has particular expertise in discrimination issues, most notably age and disability.
Tom is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.
