Shulmans supports the Leeds City Region at MIPIM 2018
For the sixth consecutive year, lawyers from our Real Estate team attended the property conference, MIPIM, in Cannes between 13 and16 March 2018.
Amanda Beresford, Andrew Latchmore, Dawn Carlisle and Michael Watson attended this year’s event which aims to bring together ‘influential players from all sectors of the international property industry for four days of networking, learning and transactions’. The Shulmans team attended as part of a Leeds City Region delegation which this year was the region’s largest private sector delegation ever at the conference. The aim of the City Region team was to highlight the scale of the opportunities on offer to the international audience of investors, developers and businesses attending MIPIM 2018 and to look for individual opportunities for delegates.
As well as hosting a number of meetings with new and existing contacts, on the first evening of the conference, the Shulmans team hosted a dinner for clients and contacts of the firm where discussions focussed on extending the work we do for those clients and introducing them to other contacts who might help them achieve their objectives.
There were a number of events and panel discussions at the Leeds City Region stand during the conference including presentations on inter alia unlocking opportunities through investment in transport, evolving an innovative economy, and working with the City of London to deliver growth in the regions. Andrew Latchmore chaired a panel discussion ‘Public Sectors as Propcos’. Following the debate, Andrew commented; “the enlarged stand in an improved location meant that we were able to hold some really useful and well attended seminars on the stand. The discussion I chaired revealed how extensively some authorities are now working actively to promote development in their region rather than waiting passively for something to happen.”
In addition to pre-arranged meetings, the event provides the opportunity to engage with the now substantial Leeds City Region delegation and the organisations from the region who, like Shulmans, sponsor the attendance of the delegation at MIPIM.
Following the event, Andrew concluded; “MIPIM was once again extremely well attended by senior figures in the property industry. It gave us opportunities to meet with individuals from a range of businesses that it would be difficult to get to see in other circumstances and these discussions threw up a number of promising leads to follow up over the next six months.”
